Among these, the Catenacciu, which takes place every year on Good Friday, is a procession featuring the red penitent, whose identity remains unknown to all, carrying the cross and chains on his feet along the streets of Sartène.

Porta Square, the city center, is dominated by the former Genoese governors' palace, now converted into the town hall, and by the church of Sainte-Marie. Shaded by palm trees and elms, it is, with its cafes and market, the meeting place for the people of Sartène.
